What is Hot and Cold Stone Therapy?

We all know how good warmth can feel on tired, aching muscles, as we also understand the benefit of soothing inflamed tissues with a cold compress. These two truths are the basis around incorporating hot and cold stones into a massage treatment. I use pink marble stones from Pakistan for cold therapy. Smooth, river tumbled rocks from Arizona are heated in a water bath for hot stone therapy.

What does a session look like?

The warmth of the stone penetrates a little deeper than the warmth of my hands, to relieve pain and soften the tissue. Different shaped stones are used on different parts of the body. For example a pillow stone rests underneath the arch of your neck, tiny disk stones nestle between your toes! The stones are used, like an extension of my hands. Using natural Jojoba oil, with heated basalt and cooled marble stones, flowing massage strokes offer a nurturing and deeply effective massage. Your mind centers, your body relaxes.

Are there other Applications for Hot & Cold Stone Therapy?

There are as many applications, as there are body therapies! The following examples are offered at in my practice:

* By incorporating crystals and other precious stones such as, Jade, Amethyst, Shiva Lingam, Petoskey, Rose and Clear Quartz, Sardonyx and Labradorite, heated themselves or placed atop heated basalt stones, the effective properties of the stones can rejuvenate you through their chakra balancing properties.
