History

The Usui System of Reiki Healing

During a period of reflection and awakening, Misao Usui received the gift of healing in the early 1900’s. He spent the remainder of his life as a healer and teacher passing on this gift he called Reiki.

What is Reiki?

Reiki means Universal Life Energy. With a gentle touch, Reiki facilitates physical, emotional, mental and spiritual healing. It reduced stress, relieves pain and supports you in your personal growth.

What does a session look like?

During a Reiki Treatment the hands of the practitioner are placed lightly in specific positions on the body, as well as areas of localized pain or discomfort. Reiki balances the energy system of the body and encourages a deep relaxation, so that the body can work most effectively to heal itself and to relieve stress. The client remains fully clothed for the treatment. Reiki can be combined with deep tissue and relaxation massage, creating a customized session.

History

Reflexology is an ancient art of healing, the roots of which began in ancient Egypt. It is a gentle form of therapeutic treatment applied to the feet, hands and sometimes ears. The study evolved in 1913 from the work of Dr. William H. Fitzgerald, an ear, nose and throat surgeon in the United States. Dr. Shelby Riley and Eunice Ingham, continued his work. Ms. Ingham determined that the reflexes on the feet were an exact mirror image of the organs of the body after observing a marked improvement in her clients' health.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet, hands and ears that have referral areas which correspond to every part, gland and organ of the body. Through application of pressure on these reflexes, the client will notice tension is relieved, circulation is improved and the natural function of the related areas of the body is promoted.

What does a session look like?

The session begins with a 10-minute foot/hand massage. This is a way to de-stress and relax as well as softening, moisturizing and lengthening the tissue to provide ease in manipulating the tissue during the Reflexology work. The therapist stimulates the reflex areas on the hands and feet, applying pressure to the feet with thumb and fingers. Pressure is applied to clear congestion and restore normal functioning and health.
